Tide Prediction Information

The tide predictions on this site are not official tide tables as specified in Maritime Rules Part 25 Nautical Charts and Publications (pursuant to Section 36 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994).

Times used in the tide predictions are in NEW ZEALAND STANDARD TIME (NZST), in accordance with International Hydrographic Organisation Technical Resolution G1.2.

NEW ZEALAND DAYLIGHT TIME (NZDT) will be kept from 0200 NZST 30 September 2007 until 0200 NZST 6 April 2008.

Standard Ports

Daily predictions of the times and heights of high and low waters at Standard Ports can be found using the Standard Port Tide Tables.

Tidal predictions are compiled for standard barometric pressure. The meteorological conditions that can have an effect on the tide are described in Meteorological Effects.

The zero of the predicted tide heights for each Standard Port is described in Datum Descriptions and corresponds to Chart Datum.

To find times or heights between high and low waters follow the instructions given given in Method to Find Times or Heights between High and Low Waters - (pdf 42KB).

The following table indicates the years for which tidal observations have been obtained. The results of the analysis of that data have been used to generate tide predictions for the period 1 July 2007 – 30 June 2008. The number of years of data analysed is also shown. Any difference between the Period of Observations and No. of Years analysed indicates data missing for one or more years.

Secondary Ports

Information required to predict times of high and low waters, and tidal levels, at secondary ports can be found using the Secondary Port Tide Tables.

Instructions for finding the times and heights of high and low waters at secondary ports can be found in Method to Find Times or Heights of High and Low Waters - (pdf 31KB) .

To find times or heights between high and low waters follow the instructions given in Method to Find Times or Heights between High and Low Waters - (pdf 42KB).
