Reporting a Hazard to Navigation

Discovery of new or suspected dangers to navigation, or shortcomings in charts or publications

Mariners are requested to immediately advise LINZ Hydrographic Services of the discovery of new or suspected dangers to navigation, or shortcomings in charts or publications. The preferred format for advising LINZ is the Hydrographic Note commonly referred to as an H Note.

There are two ways to complete the H Note:

1. Complete the online H Note form and submit electronically to LINZ. Online H Note form.
2. Use the paper format found at the back of the NZ 204 - the New Zealand Nautical Almanac. The paper version should be completed and faxed to LINZ on +64 4 460 0161. H Note formatted for printing (pdf 85KB).

Instructions for completing the H Note are on p213 of the NZ Nautical Almanac, 2005/06, they are also detailed below. The information LINZ receives may result in the promulgation of a Notice to Mariners amendment.
